Chiang Mai, Thailand—Hosted by the Thailand Contractors Association (TCA), the 32nd ASEAN Constructors Federation (ACF) Council Meeting was successfully held last June 28-30 at the Le Meridien Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand with representatives from ACF-member countries.
The Philippine Constructors Association (PCA), Inc. delegation was headed by PCA President Levy Espiritu together with ACF Chairman and PCA Past President Jorge Consunji, ACF Vice Chairman and PCA Past President Anthony Fernandez, ACF Secretary-General and PCA 1st Vice President Ronaldo Elepaño, Jr., and former ACF Secretary-General and PCA Executive Director Manolito Madrasto.
The 1st Construction Standard Trade Skills Training (CSTST) Technical Working Group Meeting held last June 27 was well-attended by representatives from five ACF-member countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. In the said meeting, the group has agreed to forge ahead to win the funding of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) for the review of the proposed manpower skills harmonization.
Also incorporated in the council meeting was the Singapore Contractors Association Limited (SCAL)-China Contractors Association (CHINCA) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing. Held last June 28, the ceremony followed an executive session on the next steps to be taken by the ACF after the MOUs signed by different ACF-member associations.
Associations in attendance also presented their own country reports which covered their respective economies and current industry situations.
Meanwhile, all ACF Council members were invited to attend the 8th China-ASEAN Expo and Relevant Forum on October 21-26 in Guangxi, China. On the occasion of the 32nd ACF Council Meeting, it was also announced that the 39th International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Associations’ (IFAWPCA) Convention is scheduled to happen on November 15-18 in Hong Kong.
