The Investments Coordination Committee (ICC) of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has approved the P9.76-billion Light Railway Transit Line 2 east extension project, one of the P32.67-billion worth of transportation, infrastructure and health projects aimed to be implemented this year.
"The projects aim to build and rehabilitate vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges and hospitals to improve the delivery of basic services and movement of trade," a statement from NEDA read.
The LRT 2 extension project involves the design and construction of a 4.19-kilometer extension from the existing Santolan station to Masinag Junction.
The extension will involve two new stations which will be located at Emerald Drive in Cainta, Rizal and another at Masinag Junction in Antipolo, Rizal.
Once completed, the LRT 2 will have a total length of 16.75 kilometers.
Its implementing agency, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), currently awaits the NEDA Board's approval of the project.
The NEDA Board is headed by President Benigno Aquino III himself.
