Estilo De Vida 2012 Students' Briefing held

The Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PCA), in cooperation with CW Home Depot and Global Link MP Events International, Inc., held last September 14 the Estilo De Vida 2012 Students' Briefing at the events hall of CW Home Depot Makati.

Organized by the PCA and co-organized by the Philippine Institute of Interior Design (PIID), Estilo De Vida 2012, the 9th Inter-School Interior Design Competition, is themed "Philippine Eco-Tourism: Interior Design in Resort Facilities Using Sustainable Materials."

Over 60 junior and senior Interior Design students from various universities and colleges all over Luzon attended the briefing, including representatives from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, University of Sto. Tomas (UST), St. Scholastica's College Manila, University of the East (UE) Caloocan, MAPUA Institute of Technology, Philippine Women's University (PWU), Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Philippine School for Interior Design (PSID) and St. Louie Tuguegarao.

"This is the purpose of us here--to be able to make you soar to the skies, without any impediments, any limitations. This is our way of helping our budding designers in the future to be able to grow, and so when you become real professionals, you can make beautiful designs together, make money together," said CW Home Depot Managing Director Ferdinand Co as he welcomed the young designers in the said briefing.

With him were Pacific Paints (Boysen) Philippines, Inc. Marketing Manager and PCA Director Ruben Cueto, Datem, Inc. 1st Vice President and PCA Secretary Morris Agoncillo and Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID) Executive Vice President Belen Morey who took the hot seat as they answered the queries of the students following the presentation of the rules and mechanics of the competition.

The challenge of this year's competition is to design the interiors of a 72 sq. m. allocated space for a resort facility (lobby, spa, coffee shop, etc.) with a height of 3 meters and riser of 6 inches with a simple ceiling design.

The challenge is in line with the global awareness campaign on climate change and its consequent detrimental effects on the environment.

As discussed, the competition will consist of two rounds--the preliminary judging and shortlisting, and the final judging of the displays of the top three finalists.

Each school should have a maximum of five (5) entries. The deadline for the submission of drawings will be on September 28 and the announcement of the top three finalists will be on October 11.

The top three finalists will then advance to the final round and will execute and display their designs at the SMX Convention Center Manila from November 7 to 10, in time with Philconstruct 2012.

The three finalists will execute their design plates and build their booths during the ingress of Philconstruct 2012 on November 7, in which no deviations from their original designs will be permitted.

All materials that will be used for the displays, including the construction services for the booths, will be provided by this year's sponsors, Boysen Paints, Datem, Inc., CW Home Depot, Nedsteel Construction & Development Corp., Versaflex Board and Will Decena & Associates.

Each design will be judged based on its layout partition/furniture (30%), design (35%), color scheme/presentation (25%) and its being within the budget specified (10%).

The participant who wins this year's competition will receive P50,000 and a trophy, while the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up will receive P40,000 and P30,000, respectively. The top 7 finalists will also get P5,000 each.

Each participating school will receive a trophy and certificate of participation.

Last year's top three finalists, Biance Elinor Uy of PSID (Champion), Rogelio Bustria, Jr. (1st runner-up) and Harold Bandejas (2nd runner-up) of EARIST also graced the event to share their experiences in the competition and inspire the new batch of Estilo De Vida participants to persevere as they realize their dreams of becoming professional interior designers someday.

Estilo De Vida is an annual inter-school interior design competition spearheaded by the PCA to highlight the talents of interior design students across the Philippines.
